1996 Ford F-150 OBS Long Travel
A dark-blue 1996 Ford F-150 XLT OBS on a Desolate Motorsports stock-width long-travel package — King 2.5 coilovers up front, King 2.5 bypass shocks out back, and Deaver Q80-2 leaf springs — with Desolate's Complete Steering Combo (Saginaw pump and Borgeson shaft), rolling on 17-inch Raceline Rhino wheels wrapped in 35/12.5R17 BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain KM3 tires.
Built To Work & Play
This 1996 Ford F-150 XLT OBS came in for real suspension. We installed the Desolate Motorsports 80-96 4WD stock-width long-travel package — King 2.5x12-inch coilovers with remote reservoirs up front, King 2.5x10-inch three-tube bypass shocks out back, Deaver Q80-2 leaf springs, and Desolate's modified TTB housings, high-clearance radius arms, shock hoops, bump stops, and limit straps. We paired it with Desolate's Complete Steering Combo — a Saginaw power steering pump upgrade, rebuilt factory steering box, Borgeson steering shaft, and a heavy-duty tie rod kit — to keep the steering tight through all that travel. The kit delivers 17 inches of wheel travel front and rear and clears a 35-inch tire with the stock fenders. We finished the stance with 17-inch Raceline Rhino wheels wrapped in 35/12.5R17 BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain KM3s.

The Details
The Suspension
Desolate Motorsports' stock-width long-travel package is the heart of this build. Up front, King 2.5x12-inch coilovers with remote reservoirs ride in Desolate shock hoops, with bump stops and limit straps keeping everything in check. Out back, King 2.5x10-inch three-tube bypass shocks and Deaver Q80-2 leaf springs handle the duty. The modified TTB housings and high-clearance radius arms correct the camber and keep the beams tracking straight through all 17 inches of travel.
The Steering
Long travel is hard on factory steering, so we paired the kit with Desolate's Complete Steering Combo — a Saginaw power steering pump on a CAD-designed bracket with a billet pulley, a rebuilt factory steering box, a Borgeson steering shaft that replaces the rag joint with steel u-joints, and a heavy-duty tie rod kit. New, reliable steering to match the new travel.
The Stance
Seventeen-inch Raceline Rhino wheels and 35/12.5R17 BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain KM3 tires fill the stock fenders — the kit clears a 35-inch tire without fiberglass, so the body stays clean while the suspension does the work.
